Tuesday 27th September 2005 John viewed Selene at Gosport Boat Yard – preliminary offer suggested.
Saturday 1st October 2005 Julia viewed and approved. Firm offer made, accepted on Ferry over to IOW with Vic & Brenda
Sunday 2nd October 2005 Not strictly Selene, as we crewed “Snowbird” with Malcolm & Mavis back to Port Solent. I took the helm all the way from the exit to Shepherds Wharf until the lock gates at Port Solent. Lovely breeze – reach all the way.
Tuesday 4th October 2005 Survey done – some bad news on the rudder. More negotiating with the vendor and talking to Lombard!
Friday 7th October 2005 Finally did the deal late in the afternoon – Selene is ours. Now dependent upon Gosport Boat yard doing the rudder, the anti-fouling and getting the engine serviced in time to bring Selene home next Saturday for the laying up supper. Lots of jobs to be done!
Wednesday 12th October 2005 Gosport have moved her and nearly finished the anti-fouling and rudder work!
Friday 14th October 2005 Finally did the big day arrives and she goes into the water.
Note the rigging man putting the windex on the top of the mast!
I then took the car to Emsworth and came back by train, and then motored her round to the fuel pontoon where I learned that she is very heavy compared to High Tension – you cannot hold her against a current! Anyway got fuel and brought her back into dock by myself!
Julia arrived by train and we had drinks with one of the two Yacht Brokers Chris Ibbotson and his girlfriend Michelle before having a meal in Gun wharf Quays. We slept for the first time on her and prepared her to take “home”. |
