Selene is a Legend 29.5. A Warren Luhrs designed fin & bulb keeled, fractional rigged
sloop, with a fully battened mainsail with an overall length of twenty-nine feet, six inches.
By sweeping the shrouds and spreaders aft on the Hunter 29.5 the designers were able to support the mast in all
conditions without the need for a conventional backstay. This
means they were free to maximise the roach of the Mainsail in
order to increase the sail area. With the majority of sail area
in the main, sudden gusts can be easily handled by "dumping" the
main sheet which is always at hand to the helmsperson.
Selene needs to be sailed "flat" rather than heeled over like more conventional keel boats, and in many respects sails more like a big dinghy, making her exciting and fast.
